What happens to my eyebrow hair?

No waxing/shaving is allowed on the day of the appointment although, we may tweeze some stray hairs to assist with creating desired shape.

For clients that have little to no natural hair - Our advanced artists are highly skilled to perform procedures with or without hair present in the eyebrow area.

How are the colours selected?

The choice of colours depends on your skin tone and the colour of your hair and eyes. With the assistance of the practitioner, suitable colours are selected in order to find the best match. You may like to bring along your own makeup pencil or lipstick and a colour match can be made from this.

What are the pigment locations?

Most of the pigments used are Iron Oxide and Titanium Dioxide, a safe non-reactive substance. The pigment lotions are specifically manufactured for implantation into human skin. Most of the pigment lotions are inorganic excluding some of the lip colours which are organic. A coloured powder is suspended in a solution of distilled water, alcohol and glycerine, which results in a smooth, fine, creamy liquid.

There are over 400 pre-mixed colours and more colours can be created by mixing colours together ranging from very light to dark for lips and eyebrows. We create or select the colours as close to your requirements as possible. We use colours imported from four reputable manufacturers in the USA, all tested and proven for over 30 years. Product ingredients are listed on our bottles.

The difference between our lotions and tattoo inks – Cosmetic Tattoo Pigment Colours are softer and have been blended to create soft colours for the face, all are pre-mixed and pasteurised. Tattoo inks are bright colours used for decorative purposes and too bright for the face and camouflage treatments. Most tattoo artists mix their coloured powder with alcohol and do not list the ingredients on their bottles.

How many treatments do I need?

Two treatments are usually needed, at least 4-8 weeks apart. Sometimes just one treatment is sufficient. With most procedures, the colour fades dramatically after a week. For the second treatment, the practitioner gauges the colour retention and adds the required amount of pigment.

What should I expect after the treatment?

Immediately after treatment, the colour will appear darker than your chosen shade. This is because the pigment takes around seven days to enter the deeper layers of the skin.

After 7-10 days, exfoliation takes place. The top layer of the skin peels off, leaving a softer, lighter colour below. The result is a natural looking enhancement.

As the treated area is settling down, itching may occur. This is a good sign as it means the skin is healing. Apply the recommended cream to the treated area lightly as recommended.

How long will the treatment last?

Semi Permanent Makeup can last several years. This depends on your skin type, sun exposure and lifestyle.

Longevity of pigment also varies depending on how well your skin holds the pigment. We recommend a colour refresh to be taken every 12-18 months to keep enhancements looking fresh. Should you choose not to have a yearly colour refresh your enhancement will fade over a period of approximately 2-3 years.

Lips and eyeliners tend to last longer.

Will the treatment hurt?

Anaesthetics are used to numb the treatment area pre and during the procedure. Some clients may experience slight discomfort and a stinging sensation, more so on sensitive areas such as the lips.

Will I be able to return to work the next day?

Yes. Most clients show little sign of swelling or redness after treatment. The colour will be quite dark at first. It will soften and lighten within 10 days.

Lip treatment clients can experience moderate swelling and bruising and the colour will look strong for 3-7 days. With lip tattoos we recommend taking minimum 3-4 days off work. It is only with the full lip treatment that swelling can last for up to 72 hours or even a little longer and the lips will be extremely dry.

Some mature age clients may experience very sore and rough lips for approximately 7 days.

Is there risk of infection?

There is a minimal risk of infection as strict hygiene standards are maintained. Sterile needles from sealed packets are used once only.

To prevent cross contamination, the technician wears sterile gloves. An antibiotic cream is applied to the skin after treatment. Strict after care rules are given to the client at the end of each treatment.

Will I be allergic to the treatment?

A skin test patch is offered upon request. However, an allergic reaction to pigments/dyes can occur immediately after or manifest years later whether or not skin test patch is performed. Allergic reactions are extremely rare.

What factors will affect Semi Permanent Makeup?
  • How long you spend in the sun will impact your results. The sun fades the pigment faster so sun block may be used to prolong your enhancement.
  • The regeneration of skin cells – the longer the regeneration takes the longer the pigment holds.
  • The speed at which the skin absorbs the pigment – the slower the absorption the longer the pigment will hold.
  • The choice of colour – some colours fade quicker than others, e.g. a blonde colour will fade quicker than a dark brown colour.
  • The area of treatment – enhancements to the face, for example, fade more quickly due to constant exposure and product use.
  • Oily skin tends to lose colour more quickly than other skin types.
